How to remove wind noise from a video on iPhone

To remove wind noise from a video on iPhone, import the video into Denoise, tap Denoise and save the result: an AI model on your phone removes the wind from the soundtrack and puts the cleaned sound back into the same video. It works on any video in your Photos library or Files, including old ones and videos from other cameras, and nothing is uploaded.

Remove wind noise in three steps

  1. Import the video

Open Denoise, tap + and choose Import from Gallery. You can also share a video to Denoise from Photos or Files.

  2. Tap Denoise

Open the video, keep the default engine, AI · Auto, and tap Denoise. A one-minute clip takes about 5 to 10 seconds, even in airplane mode.

  3. Compare and save

Switch between Original and Cleaned to hear the difference, then tap Share Cleaned and choose Save Video. The cleaned copy is added to your Photos library.

After
A public-domain LibriVox reading mixed with a real recording of wind on a microphone (CC0, Freesound). The after is the unedited output of DeepFilterNet, the model family Denoise runs on your phone.

Good to know

  • Only the sound changes. Denoise saves a new copy of the video at the highest quality and its original resolution; your original stays in Photos.
  • iPhone 16 and later can reduce wind while you film (Settings › Camera › Record Sound › Wind Noise Reduction), and Photos › Edit › Audio Mix can rebalance Spatial Audio videos recorded on those iPhones. Denoise works on videos that are already recorded, from any iPhone or camera.
  • A gust that overloads the microphone causes loud pops and crackle that are part of the recording. Denoise removes the rumble around them, but those moments can still sound rough.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on videos that weren't shot on an iPhone?

Yes. Any video with a sound track that you can put in Photos or Files works, including MP4 and MOV files from action cameras and other phones.

How long can the video be?

There is no length limit. A one-minute clip takes about 5 to 10 seconds on a recent iPhone, so a ten-minute video takes a minute or two.

Is it free?

Importing, cleaning and listening are free, with no account. Saving or sharing the cleaned video needs Denoise Pro: $2.99 a month or $14.99 once (US prices, October 2026; the app shows yours before you pay).

Is my video uploaded?

No. The AI model runs on your iPhone, so it works offline and the video never leaves your phone.
